Storytellers (3 minute short)

A three-minute film exploring the recursive nature of memory and stories, avatar embodiment as storytellers, and the role of storytelling in culture – while tracing the thread that runs through each of us from time immemorial.  (silent version used for this installation)

This installation space was of particular interest to me, as I set it up to intentionally create a scale dynamic reinforcing  the storytelling sessions often held in elementary schools, public libraries, childcare spaces, and my community’s elder meetings. The vantage point and recorded storyteller perspectives are meant to resemble a storytelling circle while viewing the work, and to encourage subconscious embodiment of the proposed imaginary audience, imbued with a sense of wonder and suspension of disbelief regardless of the real viewers’ age or background.

The video is edited from multiple clips of myself embodying a series of virtual avatars I created as part of this tale.
The narration was not included in this version for this gallery, as it needed to be accessible without headphones and be projected in a central gathering location. However, the narration and audio offer changing voices, similar, but pitch-shifted reflecting range of storyteller.
