Visions3 : An installation for the Center for Gender, Race, and Area Studies (CGRAS) Possible Futures pre-election pop-up offering moments of active and passive experiences through collective engagement, physicality, and the ephemeral-dynamic.
Materials: projection mapped digital media loops (20 minutes), audio, forty 10 inch LED translucent cubes, six 16 inch LED translucent cubes, contact decals
Collaborators: Asha Best (lead), James Maurelle (audio installation), Amanda Theinert (video/design), Ulm (concept/interaction design)
This pop-up is an interactive site/situ- specific installation which includes projected loops of video clips (mp4s) from various categories (political, social movements, climate concerns, surveillance, conflict, corporatization, etc.) reflective of ‘possible futures’ as represented in a multitude of media types (social media, games, news, film, etc). Clips were gathered through collaboration including an open-call online. The newly formed media is projection mapped to an initial arrangement of 27 cubes within a broader sculpture. Each element of the sculpture may be rotated, moved, and color-changed, allowing it to occlude, reflect, or blur various elements of the projection. Individuals, through interaction, may also incorporate themselves or leave traces of their engagement. The asynchronous ambient soundscape was curated by Prof. James Maurelle.
