NEGB

New England Music Group

I was approached by the CEO of a New England music group for local bands to create an online game to promote the sight, their mission, and general participation. We wanted a game that centered on music obviously, but also incorporated ways to encourage competition, sharing, and replay. The objectives included getting traffic to the site, maintaining that traffic in order to increase membership and online participation, and expansion of membership via interest in the site including the use of sharing the game through social media.

We went with a customized riff on a music sequence button masher — i.e. you hit the right buttons as a song plays in order to score.

We customized it with characters based on the actual members of the NEGB group. The songs were also from albums produced by the members — all rights given. The game was programmed by Matthew Hopkins — who as a musician, was also able to do all the music sequencing. Custom character art was produced by Ilir Mborja. Background art was contributed by student interns.

The game was a success and lived online for a few years.
